Happy memories of the Rainbow Inn
IT was lovely to see the Rainbow Inn in the Telegraph.
My grandmother Kate Tatlow and her husband Oliver Tatlow took over the Rainbow in 1900.
My father Jack was born there on October 13 1914. After my grandfather died my mother Gladys and father helped run the pub. It was in Kate’s name for 45 years until she died in
February 1958.
My parents ran it for a while longer.
It brought back lovely memories of friends and family. The photo dated June 12th 1974 was sad as my mother died on June 9th 1974.
My father was a big sportsman playing hockey for both Coventry and North Warwickshire and England. He was a cricketer and golfer.
Sadly the lovely private garden has gone and the big barn has closed doors. The swallows made their home there for years.
Thankyou, it was a lovely surprise. G. Gates ( Tatlow), Coventry. Mr A. Mayne sent in these pictures of a Coventry thunderstorm. He said: “Last Saturday evening at around 9pm and settled for the evening, the weather changed and for the first time my children properly experienced a thunderstorm over their home. I have a boy of 7yrs and a girl of 4yrs, both becoming unsettled and a little worried... smiling to myself and reassuring them I opened up the curtains in the master bedroom, turning off the lights and we watched and video recorded the storm. We had a good chat about why and how thunderstorms work. Once the storm passed their fears had passed away too with them both wanting to see more lightning. Hopefully you enjoy the pics and help other young people to overcome thunderstorm worries.”
