The dogs looking for fur-ever homes

DOGS TRUST KENILWORTH IS CLOSED BUT REHOMING GOES ON...

- By BETHAN SHUFFLEBOTHAM

DOGS TRUST Kenilworth is the charities largest centre in the UK, caring for around 180 dogs at a time.

Due to Covid-19, the rehoming centres are closed to the public, but some dogs are still up for adoption.

The new Dogs Trust rehoming process includes social distancing measures and matching dogs to homes virtually, with contact free delivery.

There are some dogs at the centre who would like to get to know their potential new paw-rents before moving in, and these can be met by appointment at the Kenilworth centre.

Here are some of the gorgeous dogs looking for fur-ever homes.

SHELLEY

Shelley is a female lurcher, aged between two to five years.

She’s described as a ‘lovely girl’ with a lot of energy, who will need some housetraining.

Shelley is in need of an active family with people home a lot of the time.

Dogs Trust said: “Shelley is looking for people who are home most of the time and are willing to build up time left alone gradually as in the previous home she didn’t like being left.

“She gets on well with her kennel mate so could possibly live with another dog following a successful meeting at the centre.

“She could live with children of 11 years or over who are confident around a lively dog. She will need a secure garden with a fence of at least 6 feet.”

SHADOW

If you’re looking for a home companion, then Shadow could be the girl for you.

Shadow is a lurcher described as a ‘timid young lady’ aged five to seven and has been housetrained.

She’s not overly keen on car rides and can be ‘restless,’ and would prefer to be in a home with lots of company, but no other dogs just yet.

Dogs Trust said: “Shadow a timid young lady looking for a fairly quiet home with patient new owners who will give her plenty of time to get used to her new environment.

“She could live with children of 14 years or over who will go slowly with her at first until she gains in confidence.

“Any time being left would need to be built up gradually leaving her with things to do to keep her occupied. Shadow would need to be the only pet in the home for now.”

ROCKET

Rocket is a bouncy boy who loves food and will need an active family to keep up with him.

He’s a lurcher between the ages of two and five, and could live with children over 12.

Rocket loves playing with his toys and throwing them around to entertain himself.

Dogs Trust said: “Rocket is looking for a fairly active home with owners who have the time to train and exercise him.

“He will need to be the only dog in his new home but would benefit from further socialisation around other dogs once he has settled in.

“Rocket could live with children of 12 years or over as long as they are confident around a lively dog as he can be mouthy when excited.

“He would prefer a home where he rarely has to be left as he does prefer having company.”

REMO

‘Gentle giant’ Remo is a greyhound who thinks he’s a lap dog!

He’s between five and seven years old and loves a fuss - but not so fond of cats or rabbits.

He arrived at Kenilworth Dogs Trust with not much information and may need some training.

Dogs Trust said: “He will need to be the only pet in his new home for now. He does need to be walked muzzled as he does have a prey drive and unfortunately he is not suitable to live with cats or small furries.

“Remo could live with children of 8 years or over who are happy around large dogs.”

MURPHY

Murphy is a handsome boxer cross who loves people - but will need to be walked wearing a muzzle.

He’s aged between five and seven years old and is housetrained, but doesn’t like to be left alone for longer than an hour.

Murphy likes attention and playing fetch with tennis balls, and would be best suited to an active home.

Dogs Trust said: “He is strong on the lead and can be reactive around other dogs so will need owners who are able to manage him and Murphy must be walked muzzled in his new home.

“He is looking for an active home with people who are happy to continue with his on-going training in the home.

“Murphy could live with children 12 years or over who are confident around a lively dog. Murphy is also looking for a home as the only pet as he loves having all the attention to himself.”

PEGGY

Peggy is an older girl over the age of eight, but she doesn’t let that stop her chasing tennis balls.

The German shepherd loves attention, treats and the company of people she knows.

Peggy lived in a home for a short time and is housetrained, but is looking for an adult only home where she will have company during the day.

Dogs Trust said: “She would need to be the only pet in her new home. Peggy at the moment is

uncomfortable around other dogs so further socialisation will be needed once she has settled in her new home.

“Her new owners will need to visit Peggy a few times prior to taking her home and be willing to carry on with her training with guidance from staff at the centre. With time and patience Peggy will make a fantastic addition to the family.”

RIVER

River the Siberian husky is between two and five years old but doesn’t know his own strength.

This big ball of fluff is very strong and will need an adult-only home.

River would prefer you to be home all the time - if you like your sofa at least.

Dogs Trust said: “He will need a home where he will not be left at all as he has been known to take furniture apart and will need to be the only pet.

“New owners will need to be local to the centre as he will need multiple visits before going home.

“He is a fab lad, but will need a strictly adult-only home without any visiting children with very patient owners who must be willing to continue with his training.”

ROCKY

Rocky is searching for his Adrian, hoping to settle down in a home with an adult female - he just prefers ladies!

The Jack Russell terrier is over the age of eight and is housetrained, and doesn’t mind being on his own for a few hours.

He loves pottering around the garden, but wants to meet his potential owner a few times first to make sure she’s Mrs Right.

Dogs Trust said: “Rocky is looking for a particular type of home and he is best suited to live with a lone adult female with no visiting children.

“He is a sensitive boy who walks lovely on his lead and enjoys pottering around in the garden.

“He will need to be the only pet in his new home. His new owner will need to visit Rocky quite a few times before taking him home in order to form a bond with him.”

MURPHY

Check out those ears! Murphy is a crossbreed over the age of eight and loves treats.

When he’s not curled up on a comfy duvet, he loves playing football!

Murphy is housetrained and walks nicely on his lead, but is searching for someone with patience to help him settle in.

Dogs Trust said: “Murphy would suit an adult only, fairly active home with patient new owners who will give him plenty of time to get used to his new environment.

“He does have a nervous side to him especially when it comes to new people and new situations so a home with not too many visitors would suit him.

“He could possibly live with a very quiet female dog in his new home following a successful introduction at the centre.

RAZOR

Razor the German shepherd is a playful pooch looking for an active home.

He’s between two and five years old and has lived in a previous home where he was housetrained.

He has some trouble with his hips and is on medication.

Dogs Trust said: “Razor is looking for an adult only home without visiting children. He will need access to his own secure garden in his new home.

“Razor has got hip dysplasia which requires medication but help will be provided for this by Dogs Trust.

“New owners will need to visit Razor a few times at the centre prior to taking him home in order to form a bond.”

FRANKIE

Frankie the terrier cross is looking for a peaceful life and a quiet home.

He’s over eight years old and is housetrained, and happy to be left home alone for a while.

He’s described as a ‘worried boy’ and will need some space, time to settle in and on-going training. He is independent and enjoys his own company.

Frankie would like to be walked in quieter areas, but would have to be muzzled.

Dogs Trust said: “Once Frankie gets to know you he is always happy to see you and enjoys going out for his walks.

“A home with minimal visitors would be preferred and no visiting children. He is worried by handling and will need his own designated area in his new home where he can take himself away when he needs to.

“He will need to be the only pet in his new home.”

FLORRIE

‘Sweet and sensitive’ Florrie the Lurcher is aged between two and five years old.

She’s looking for a quiet, adultonly home where she can go for long walks and run off the lead.

She’s housetrained, happy to travel in the car and behaves in the garden - but isn’t used to being on her own.

Dogs Trust said: “A home with no visiting children is required. She gets on well with other dogs and could live with one in her new home as long as they are of a similar size following a successful introduction at the centre.

“Unfortunately she is not able to live with cats or small furries. She will need a home with her own secure garden.

“It may benefit Florrie for her new owners to visit her a few times at the centre before taking her home to build up a bond with her.”
