Cov man who made ‘truly unacceptable’ phone calls to police is jailed

- By BEN ECCLESTON Crime Reporter

A COVENTRY man made “truly unacceptable” abusive phone calls to police - making references to “kneeling on the neck” a number of times.

Mark Senter was hauled before the courts for making two offensive, obscene or indecent telephone calls to the emergency services on June 14.

The court heard he hurled a “tirade of abuse”, including commenting about “”kneeling on the neck” at least three times.

It came after George Floyd died while being detained by police in the US in May.

The phone calls came after Senter, 47, of Foleshill Road, Foleshill, had used threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour which was racially aggravated towards a police officer.

Those actions were described at Coventry Magistrates’ Court as “truly deplorable”.

Senter was sent to prison for 20 weeks - eight weeks for the threatening behaviour charge (with an uplift of two weeks due to the racial element) and six weeks each on top for both of the abusive phone calls.

He was also ordered to pay £150 compensation to the police officer.

Other cases heard at Coventry Magistrates’ Court between June 10 and 16 included: Constantin Navirgeac, 26, of Lawrence Hill, Bristol, admitted stealing items worth £761 from Boots in Coventry.

He was sent to prison for eight weeks as “number and nature of offences shows that the defendant is operating as a professional criminal” and ordered to pay £100 court costs and a £128 victim surcharge.

Gemma Tyler, 27, of West Street, Warwick, admitted stealing whisky, sweets and an ipad from Sainsbury’s.

She was sent to prison for four weeks due to “record of previous offending”.

Nina Tandy, 38, of no fixed address, admitted stealing air fresheners and wine worth £64 from Tesco.

She was handed an eight-week prison sentence suspended for a year and ordered to pay a £128 victim surcharge.

Jaskaran Chana, 31, of King George’s Avenue, Foleshill, admitted drug-driving in Lozells.

He was banned from driving for 18 months, fined £150 and ordered to pay a £135 court costs and a £32 victim surcharge.

Kirk Mackeller, 41, of London Road, Whitley Village, admitted entering a property as a trespasser with intent to steal and stealing a bank card as a trespasser at a Co-op store.

He was sent to prison for six months due to being on licence at time of offence and has 27 offences of burglary on record and ordered to pay £600 compensation.
