Here comes the sun...but not for long

- By JOSH LAYTON News Reporter

A BLAZE of sunshine is forecast to bring the month to an end with the UK expected to be hotter than Spain.

The mercury is predicted to rise to 30C on Friday, banishing the soggy start to the week.

But it will be shortlived, with conditions cooling back down in August.

In Coventry and Warwickshire, the Met Office is forecasting a high of 28C on Friday afternoon (July 31).

BBC forecaster Louise Lear said 30C is expected in parts of the south on Friday with many areas also seeing the mercury soaring into the high 20s.

However, the period of hot weather won’t be prolonged before a spell of wet and mildc onditions return during the start of August.

The forecaster indicated the “extreme heat is not going to stay with us” with “no signs of anything settled, warm and sunny for the start of August”.

The second half of the weekend is expected to be “a bit more comfortable” as temperatures dip but there will be a “return to wetter weather into the northwest”.

Before then it will be damp and breezy to start the week - with two inches of rain and 40mph winds expected on Monday.

The blustery showers are expected to ease on Tuesday but temperatures will remain “down on where they should be for the time of year”.

But from Wednesday, high pressure will start to settle in, with temperatures peaking at 22C while on Thursday there will be clear signs of change. Southerly winds will allow temperatures to hit highs of 26C by the afternoon and that wind will remain into the weekend.
