COVENTRY City are set to ramp up their summer transfer push in the coming weeks with both loan and permanent deals currently being considered by Mark Robins and his recruitment team.

The Sky Blues have just two weeks before their first competitive fixture with time fast running out before their opening Championship round.

A nine-man injury list has left boss Robins seriously lacking in a number of areas, noticeably in central midfield and at right-back, and the club are looking at options who could fill those voids.

Amongst those injured names are Fankaty Dabo, Michael Rose and Julian Dacosta who will all miss the start of the 2020-21 season.

Coventry will be in the market for players in a range of positions between now and the end of the transfer window with City’s manager keen to boost his squad depth and get his side Championship ready.

But he will also target players who can do far more than just play a part in the club’s first season back in the second division with the Sky Blues thought to be chasing a striker and a defender who can have a big say on the upcoming campaign.

“We’ve still got business to do and we are still a way off from having the squad that we will start the season with,” said Robins, as he revealed that he still plans on getting a list of deals over the line before the start of the season.

“Once we have that squad together then things will change and we have players who are desperate to play, too.”

“We are looking at a mixture [of loans and permanent deals] but it all depends on finance,” he explained, with Coventry City set to operate with one of the division’s

lowest budgets next term.

“That will play a huge part as everyone knows about our budget.

“We have to get players in who we can develop and get them into the style of play that we’re after and we have to get them ready for a really tough season.

He added: “We have got to have a squad available to give people breathers. It just cannot be a Saturday and Tuesday team that play every game.”

The Sky Blues have been linked with moves for a number of players in recent week, all while the club continues to push to strike a deal with Arsenal for midfielder Ben Sheaf. Should they miss out on their man, Robins is thought to have back-up targets including Wolves midfielder Owen Otasowie. Coventry have also been linked with a swoop for Nottingham Forest striker Tyler Walker in recent days as well as former Plymouth midfielder Graham Carey and Manchester United defender Di’shon Bernard, who could plug the gap left in defence.
