A MOTORIST travelling Warwickshire’s roads had a lucky escape, walking away unscathed after a single vehicle collision on the A46.

Unfortunately for them, their car - which appears to be a Jaguar XF, wasn’t quite so lucky, suffering damage having hit the central reservation.

The collision took place on the A46 northbound, near to Stoneleigh on Tuesday, August 25.

It came after a night of heavy wind and rain, which left the region’s roads in a sub-optimal condition for driving.

According to Warwickshire Police’s Operational Patrol Unit, the Jaguar hit standing water on the northbound carriageway, causing it to crash into the barrier.

They went on to say that the driver escaped without injury.

The vehicle has since been recovered.

It was not the only section of road to see weather related disruption in the region.

The M42 saw a lane closure on the northbound carriageway from J4, A3400 (Shirley) to J5, A41 (Solihull), because of a breakdown.

The motorway was also closed at southbound J6 at the NEC on the entry slip road due to severe flooding, according to Highways England.

A post on the OPU Warwickshire Facebook page reads: “The county has suffered heavy rainfall overnight and this morning.

“This driver of this Jaguar hit standing water on the A46 Northbound near Stoneleigh and collided with the barrier.

“The driver escaped without injury and we arranged recovery of the vehicle.”
