Work together over return to schools
THE pupils are clearly at very low risk in returning to school.
This is of interest to all of us as we are all affected if the virus spreads more rapidly.
I would like all schools to outline on their websites actions taken to make the risk even lower eg deep cleans, the availability of sanitizers etc.
The Government, opposition and unions should work together to give clear guidance on what a school should do if pupils or staff who have attended are later diagnosed as positive for the virus.
The Government shouldn’t present it as a fight with the unions. The welfare of teachers, support staff and others needs to be remembered and the unions have an important role in this.
Scaremongering needs to be challenged through clear information from the top scientists and the questions of worried parents and staff answered to give reassurance.
Fines for non-attendance are not appropriate at this time. That is not the way to reassure parents.
The headteacher has a clear role in articulating a positive message and maintaining the trust of parents and pupils.

Jimmy’s 600 makes him all-time great
CONGRATULATIONS to the legend that is Jimmy Anderson on taking his 600th test wicket and becoming the most prolific seam bowler in cricket history.
What a remarkable career he has had and how lucky we have been to be around to witness it.
They should build a statue of him and put it in pride of place outside his home ground.
He is one of my sporting heroes and an absolute credit to the game he has played at the highest level for the past 17 years.
P. Sheehan, Coventry.
