Coronaviru­s rate in Coventry falls...but still in the top 20 nationally

News Reporter COVENTRY’S coronaviru­s rate has fallen in the past seven days - but the city is still in the top 20 nationwide.

The latest Public Health England figures reveal there was a rate of 11.57 cases per 100,000 people in Coventry for the last seven days - down slightly on the rate for the previous seven days of 11.84.

That previous rate was enough to see the city ranked 20th in the UK, and despite the actual rate falling slightly, Coventry now stands at 18th as rates elsewhere fall slightly faster.

The data is correct up to August 25.

Blackburn with Darwen had the highest rate for the past seven days at 54.78 followed by Oldham at 44.28. Birmingham was 11th with a rate of 20.67.

Solihull’s rate was 7.39 while the rate in Nuneaton and Bedworth was 8.47. The rate in Warwickshi­re has gone up slightly and stands at 5.54 cases per 100,000 for the past seven days, compared to 4.50 for the seven days before that.

The West Midlands Combined Authority area had a rate of 12.32 while the West Midlands region had a rate of 11.12.

In terms of the actual number of cases, data shows that there were 43 confirmed cases of coronaviru­s in Coventry in the last seven days.

There were 11 cases in Nuneaton and Bedworth and 16 in Solihull.

In Warwickshi­re there have been 32 cases in the past seven days. In addition to the 11 in Nuneaton and Bedworth this also includes two in North Warwickshi­re (rate of 3.06), five in Rugby (4.59), seven in Stratford-on-avon (5.38) and seven in Warwick (4.87).
