FUNDING to fix dodgy pavements in Coventry has been welcomed by councillors.

As reported, the government has given Coventry City Council £2m from its Challenge Fund to upgrade 19 pavements.

The move was welcomed at a Cabinet meeting, held virtually.

Cllr Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet member for city services, described it as a “really good news story” as she introduced a report to councillors.

Cabinet approved the recommendations in the report, to approve that the funding be added to the five year Capital Programme.

Cllr Hetherton said that pavements close to amenities are being chosen to get the upgrades.

She added: “Covid has affected everything. People who are vulnerable want to stay close to home so making the pavements better, ensuring they feel confident when they go out is really important.”

Local consultations will be carried out before work begins, and they are expected to be completed throughout 2021.
