New striker may be Tyler made for us, says boss
MARK Robins describes Coventry City’s new signing Tyler Walker as a “terrific talent”.
Walker has joined the Sky Blues from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee and the 23-year-old has put pen to paper on a threeyear deal.
“We’re delighted to announce the signing of Tyler,” Robins told the club’s website. “He is a terrific talent, who we have been interested in for the last couple of years.
“As his goalscoring record shows, he’s a striker with great ability who really tests and stretches defences and is a fantastic signing.
“We’re really pleased to get this significant transfer completed, and look forward to working with him.”
Walker – who played in City’s friendly at Peterborough on Saturday – came through the system at Forest and scored five goals in 40 league appearances for the Reds.
He has had loan spells at Burton Albion, Stevenage, Port Vale, Bolton, Mansfield Town and Lincoln City. Walker hit 22 goals in 44 league games for Mansfield and 14 in 29 league matches for Lincoln last season.
And Walker said: “I’m buzzing to get everything done and get it over the line finally, and hopefully now we can look forward to the season and get going. I think this is the next step in my career, I’m buzzing like I said to be at Coventry and in the Championship, and that is the next step for me and hopefully it will be a good move for both of us.”
He added: “I’ve been on loan a few times, but now I want to settle in and have somewhere to call home and hopefully I can do that at Coventry.
“I played against Coventry last season and they played some really good football, and I’m looking forward to being part of that.”
Meanwhile, City will be without defender Leo Ostigard for next weekend’s Carabao Cup clash with MK Dons.
The 20-year-old defender put pen to paper on a season-long loan deal with the club on Thursday afternoon with parent side Brighton keen to see him play in England for the next stage of his career.
But they have now confirmed that he has received a call-up for Norway Under-21s that will see him jet off this week for friendlies against Gibraltar and Holland.
Ostigard started and impressed during the win over Peterborough.
The defender filled in for Michael Rose on the right side of a central defensive three – partnering Kyle Mcfadzean and Dom Hyam.
Robins said: “We got some good debuts into us and Leo will be missed next week – but will be back for the start of the league season.”
