HEALTH bosses have urged to desperate Covid-19 test seekers across Coventry and Warwickshire to stop ringing GPS.

They say that, over the past few days, GPS have had a surge of calls from people trying to book a test to see if they have coronavirus.

While welcoming the fact that people want to get tests, Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group health leaders have stressed that they need to be booked online - not via GPS.

They say that GPS do not have access to testing and are unable to order or book a COVID-19 test.

Dr Sarah Raistrick, Chair at Coventry and Rugby Clinical Commissioning Group, said: “We are pleased that people are doing the right thing and getting tested when they have COVID-19 symptoms, but it is really important that people access the tests online via the Government’s website.

“Over the past few days, GP practices and NHS 111 have received calls from patients asking for COVID-19 tests, which is not something that they can arrange or provide.”

She went on: “Your GP practices are open and working hard to continue to deliver services to patients following the necessary changes as a result of COVID-19. Please support their recovery by booking COVID-19 tests online or call 119 if you develop symptoms.”

They have issued advice to help people get a test, it includes:

Try requesting a test via the national online testing system at specific times of the day - early morning or after 8pm.

If you have Covid-19 symptoms, selfisolate for 10 days or until you are able to get a test result.

Ensure your household members self-isolate for 14 days until you or they are able to get a test result.

Do not contact your GP or NHS111 as they are unable to assist.

The numbers of cases across Coventry and Warwickshire have continued to rise in the last week although both remain far below both the national average.
