THE University of Warwick has again been named as one of the UK’S top ten universities in the Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide.

The new 2021 Times and Sunday Times guide ranks Warwick tenth overall.

Coventry University also scored highly in the latest academic barometer.

It was shortlisted for UK University of the Year in the guide.

Oxford University was University of the Year, with Queen Mary University as runner-up, while Bath, Strathclyde and Coventry - the only modern university among the finalists - completed the shortlist.

In the overall rankings, Coventry University moved up four places to joint 46th in the UK and was ranked fifth in the West Midlands ahead of Birmingham City, Keele, Worcester, Newman, and Wolverhampton universities.

The latest accolade is the third league table success for Warwick this month.

It was also ranked eighth in UK by the Guardian University Guide and the World University table for 2021 ranked it in the world’s top 100 and UK’S top 10.

The University of Warwick’s ViceChancellor, Professor Stuart Croft, said: “I could focus on Warwick’s success in three league tables this month in what continues to be a turbulent year for our whole world.

“However, I would instead like to focus on celebrating the resilience of all our staff and students in this most challenging of years, and to thank all of them for the work they are doing to enable our teaching and research, and services to our staff, students and visitors, to continue in this most challenging of times.”

Professor John Latham, Coventry University’s Vice-chancellor, said: “I am delighted that we have been shortlisted for UK University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2021, and have also moved up in the rankings.

“This is in recognition of the huge strides we have made in our journey to delivering quality teaching and learning and outstanding student satisfaction.

“As a modern university with a global outlook, we have led the way in the provision of digital learning, underpinned by the adoption of innovative technologies, including being home to the UK’S first Standalone 5G network.”

Speaking about Coventry University, Zoe Thomas, principal author of the guide, said: “Coventry University has this year reconfirmed its strong record in our league table, where it is consistently in the top two or three modern universities.

“It has expanded sites across the UK from London to Scarborough while maintaining excellent levels of student satisfaction.

“Its achievements in our league table are matched by strong performance across our measures of social inclusion - a balance few universities attain. “

Ms Thomas added: “This is not the first time we have recognised Coventry in the Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide, it has won our Modern University of the Year award three times, and was named University of the Year for Student Experience in 2018.”

The latest edition of the guide also reveals the impact that the Covid-19 pandemic will have on student life.

Universities across the UK have made changes to adapt to the new circumstances, with lectures moving online and reduced amounts of faceto-face contact time.
