Inpatient Unit reopened and Glow for Myton event

-

SIX months after making the tough decision to temporarily suspend providing inpatient care at our Warwick Myton Hospice site, we have reopened our Inpatient Unit on Myton Lane.

Our clinical and medical teams had been facing some staff shortages before lockdown and this was compounded by staff having to self-isolate during this period. Consequently, it was decided to temporarily move all inpatient services to Coventry and to offer the Warwick site to Warwick Hospital to support the local response to the pandemic.

We also redeployed a number of Registered Nurses to our Myton at Home Team to care for vulnerable patients in their own homes and to further support other providers working in the community.

We began admitting patients on Tuesday 29th September after spending two weeks preparing the facilities and ensuring Government guidelines in relation to patient and staff safety are in place.

CEO, Ruth Freeman, said: “Demand for our Inpatient beds has remained high during the coronavirus pandemic, we have also seen a marked increase in demand for our Myton at Home service and have supported more than 500 patients remotely. As the only provider of Inpatient beds across Coventry and Warwickshire we have a responsibility to protect them, for the sake of the people with life limiting and terminal illnesses who need us.

“We have operated from there since Myton was established in 1982 and it has been very odd not to have been providing Inpatient beds here for the last six months. Our staff and volunteers have been amazing and been happy to go over and above and support wherever they can.”

Don’t miss out on our amazing Glow for Myton at Home event, taking place on Saturday 17th October.

We are extremely excited to announce that there will be an exclusive appearance from some well-known Gogglebox stars, from their sofas to yours, featured in our fun filled evening of entertainment.

Also in the line-up is celebrity gardener, David Domoney, who will be sharing some great tips on how to attract butterflies into your garden, and Monty the Magician teaching you how to juggle. Sign up today for just £15 at mytonhospice.org/glow
