CITY PUB STAFF TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID

TWO staff at The Holyhead pub in Coventry have tested positive for Covid-19.

The pub on Holyhead Road remains open following the positive tests and a spokesman said “great care” was being taken to make sure the safety and wellbeing of customers and staff was “at the very forefront” of the pub’s Covid-secure operations.

They added that “robust safety protocols” were in place which include frequent cleaning and social distancing.

The spokesman also said measures at the pub were in line with government guidance and that the pub was “fully supporting the Government’s track and trace effort”.

The Holyhead forms part of the Ember Inns pub chain which is owned by Birmingham-based pub giant Mitchells & Butlers, which runs 1,784 pubs across the country.

The Holyhead spokesman confirmed that two staff had tested positive for Covid-19 and were now self-isolating, adding that the health of staff was closely monitored.

They said: “As per our government approved safety protocols, our team members provide daily health checks and are being asked to monitor their symptoms closely.

“If any of our team start to display symptoms of coronaviru­s then they will follow the appropriat­e public health guidance and self-isolate.

“We can confirm two team members have tested positive and they are currently self-isolating.”

The spokesman also aimed to reassure customers saying: “We’d like to assure our guests we’ve been working diligently at all times and are taking great care to make sure that their safety and wellbeing, and that of our colleagues, remains at the very forefront of all of our Covid-secure operations. Since reopening we’ve successful­ly introduced new robust safety protocols at the pub.”
