Struber gets new job and exits Tykes

COVENTRY City’s Championship rivals Barnsley have parted company with their manager, Gerhard Struber.

The Tykes are currently fourth from bottom of the division, having made a winless start to the new campaign.

They have lost three and earned just a single point so far - secured just over a week ago against the Sky Blues in a goalless draw at Oakwell, after which City boss Mark Robins felt his side let the home team “off the hook”.

The 43-year-old is the first managerial casualty of the season, although the Austrian head coach has not been sacked.

Instead, he has agreed a

Gerhard Struber three-year deal with MLS franchise New York Red Bulls, who have met a buy-out clause inserted into his Barnsley contract.

Struber leaves after just ten-and-a-half months in charge, with Barnsley now looking for their fifth head coach in less than three years.

Assistant head coach Adam Murray is expected to take over from Struber in a caretaker capacity.

And Chris Hughton has been appointed as the new manager of Nottingham Forest after the club sacked Sabri Lamouchi.

The former Brighton manager was announced at the City Ground just minutes after Forest confirmed Lamouchi’s departure last night.

“Nottingham Forest are delighted to announce the appointment of Chris Hughton as the club’s new manager,” a club statement read.

“Hughton joins the club with a wealth of managerial experience, leading both Newcastle United and Brighton to promotion from the Championship and going on to establish both teams in the Premier League.”

Hughton has been out of work since leaving Brighton in May 2019. Lamouchi paid the price for Forest’s poor start to the Championship campaign after they also endured a rotten end to last term, missing out on the play-offs on the final day of last season.
