Postcode confusion over Tier 2 lockdown

- By ENDA MULLEN News Reporter enda.mullen@reachplc.com

AS Coventry prepares to move into Tier 2 lockdown there has been confusion as to which areas it applies to due to the extensive scope of the Coventry or CV postcode.

The new ‘high level’ restrictions were set to come into force from 00.01 on Saturday as part of a drive to stem the spiralling coronavirus infection rate in the city. The CV postcode covers an area far greater that just the city of Coventry - including a large part of

Warwickshire, parts of Solihull and even parts of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire.

Tier 2 status will only apply to the city of Coventry itself - that is the area that comes under the jurisdiction of the unitary authority that is

Coventry City Council.

Parts of Warwickshire with a CV postcode will remain as Tier 1 (medium risk).

Areas in Solihull which have a CV postcode were already Tier 2 so it is no change for them.

The areas of Leicestershire with a CV postcode all come under Hinckley and Bosworth, which is Tier 1 (medium).

The tiny parts of Northamptonshire with a CV postcode are also Tier 1.

The CV1 through to CV6 postcodes apply exclusively to Coventry and will be in Tier 2.

The postcode areas from CV8 through to CV47 are mostly Warwickshire but also include parts of Leicestershire and Northamptonshire. All will remain as Tier 1.

The postcode where there is the most confusion is CV7, as it includes parts of Coventry, Warwickshire and Solihull.the Coventry and Solihull areas will be Tier 2 but the Warwickshire areas will remain as Tier 1.

So, Keresley (Coventry) and Meriden, Balsall Common and Berkswell (Solihull) will be Tier 2.

Exhall, Ash Green, Corley, Arley, Ansty, Shilton and Fillongley (Warwickshire) will all be Tier 1.
