Police launch new appeal and release pics of car parts after horror collision on city road

POLICE have released images of car parts left behind in a horrific hit and run in a bid to track down the driver.

The black VW Golf collided with a biker on Kenilworth Road, Coventry, at around 6pm on Saturday October 19 before leaving the scene.

Officers confirmed that the 28-yearold victim - who was knocked from his Yamaha bike and into a double decker bus travelling in the opposite direction -remains in a critical condition in hospital.

The pictures show debris from the smashed car left behind on the road after the crash.

West Midlands Police are hoping someone will recognise them.

A panel and fog light were dislodged from the car, and crash investigators believe that they belong to a black VW Golf GT model year between 2014 and 2016.

However, it is also possible that the parts could have been fitted to slightly different models as part of upgrade work.

With police investigations ongoing, anyone who may have seen a Golf with a missing panel or front fog light is urged to get in touch with officers urgently.

Det Sgt Paul Hughes, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “This was an appalling collision which has left a man very seriously injured in hospital.

“We want to track down the driver, who must have realised what had happened but instead of doing the right thing and stopping, decided to drive away. So I’m appealing for anyone who’s seen maybe a neighbour’s car with similar damage or realised that a car hasn’t been parked in its usual spot for the last few days, to let us know.

“Also I’d ask anyone in the motor trade who has recently been asked to repair a similarly damaged car or has been asked for similar parts to get in touch.”

Anyone who has not yet spoken with officers, or who has any dash-cam footage, is asked to contact police, quoting log number 3296 of October 17.

Police can be contacted via Live Chat online between 8am and midnight, via 101 at any time, or by emailing FL_ COLLISION_INVEST@WEST-MIDLANDS. pnn.police.uk. To remain completely anonymous call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 or visit www.crimestoppers-uk.org.
