Shipley KO gives boss headache

-

MIDWEEK hero Jordan Shipley will be forced to miss Coventry City’s home game against former manager Tony Mowbray’s Blackburn Rovers at St Andrew’s today.

Shipley netted in Tuesday’s draw with Swansea City but had to be subbed after taking a whack on the head, and he will be absent today due to concussion protocols.

Sky Blues boss Mark Robins is already without Gus Hamer, Tyler Walker and Fankaty Dabo.

Midfielder Hameer is two games in to a three-match suspension for being sent off against Bournemouth, and Walker continues to self isolate following a positive Covid-19 test.

Key wing-back Dabo also remains sidelined after undergoing a small operation to solve a neural back/hamstring issue.

”Jordan’s got concussion so he’s going to be out for however long it takes for him to recover, which is another blow,” said Robins.

“I thought the goal he scored on Tuesday was absolutely fantastic and the last two games, Brentford when he came on and Tuesday night, he was very good and he topped his display off with a brilliant goal. “Unfortunately he got a knock on the head.

“There’s a concussion protocol. There’s been a study done on dementia and people take this very seriously, so if you mention you feel a certain way after a head impact then you have to adhere to those protocols.

“It’s generally a week but it depends on their recovery. They have to hit certain landmarks each day and if they don’t do that then they take a step back.

“So it could be anything. But it depends on the knock and severity of the concussion I suppose. So we just have to wait and see.”

Dabo has missed the last two matches and has had an epidural to solve his back/ hamstring issue.

“He’s had a procedure done which means he’s going to be a little while but I can’t put a timescale on it because it’s something he has to recover from,” said Robins.

“He’s had a small operation, an epidural is classed as a small operation these days, and it’s something we have to just keep an eye on.”
