Flats plan for derelict former dental surgery

- By TOM DAVIS Local Democracy Reporter

A DERELICT former dental surgery in Coventry is to be demolished for flats.

Little Cedars Dental Surgery, in Willenhall, will be flattened to provide specialist supported living apartments for up to 15 adults.

The site, on Meadfoot Road, has sat vacant and boarded up for some years and in planning submissions the applicants said it is “now burnt down”.

New plans received approval from Coventry City

Council this month. Applicants said there was a “proven need” for supported living apartments in the local area.

“The development of the site will bring additional specialist housing to the City of Coventry, enhancing specialist supported provision for adults who have difficulty accessing other types of accommodation,” they said in planning submissions.

“The vibrancy of local amenities within walking distance would be enhanced by the development of the site. Adults with autism and other conditions require such housing for which there is a proven need in the city of Coventry.”

The approved scheme will build a new three-storey apartment block comprising of 15 one-bed flats, with care provided by 24/7 staffing.

The scheme, which would be classed as 100 per cent affordable, includes parking provision for 12 cars.

The site previously had planning permission approved for an 11-bed apartment scheme in 2017, however the building was subsequently sold for £200,000 last year.

WHY do you have to attend school? You are here because the Government wants a well-educated nation to run the country successfully. If you don’t attend then your parents are prosecuted.

The world into which you will be thrown, is the most challenging it has ever been and you will have to show great courage and determination to succeed in having a happy life. School provides a great opportunity for you to discover what skills and assets you have, not just examinations.

Don’t be envious of supposedly bright and intelligent people who seem to have it easy, for life can be just as difficult for them. I want to make it quite clear that each one of you is special. Each one of you is different, your DNA tells you that. Each one of you has a talent, whether it is in practical skills, music, sport etc or just a warm open personality.

The years at school give you the opportunity to find out what skills you have. Our society is crying out for disciplined, hard working people from electricians, builders to computer operators and clerks etc. Your school provides opportunities not only in lessons but also in other activities for you to test yourself.

If your do not do your best at every opportunity, you are not only wasting your time, but could be throwing away thousands of pounds and also your progress as an adult.

Remember, if you give something your best effort and you don’t do well, that is how you find out who you are. A failure is just as informative as a success.

Mr. P. Wilson,

Nuneaton.

Choosing new role

I WISH the former Commodore-inchief, Royal Navy Small Ships and Diving , well. He is as entitled as the rest of us to pick his role in life. P. Graham,

Nuneaton.
