THE opening dates of Coventry’s new Telegraph Hotel and its rooftop bar - which will be the first in the city - have being revealed.

Management at the venue has also revealed how popular the bar is already proving with more than 800 people booking in to visit.

The Telegraph Hotel will open its doors for the very first time to the public on May 17.

However its outdoor rooftop bar - Generators - will open from April 14 serving up a tapas style menu with a selection of cocktails, drinks and more.

The former Coventry Telegraph headquarters in Corporation Street has been transformed into a luxury hotel that celebrates the mid 20th century style of the building.

Its opening follows a twoyear, £18m investment programme.

The hotel was set to open last year, but coronavirus lockdowns and the Government’s tier system meant it was unable to do so.

Within hours of deciding to open the Generators bar, the hotel’s booking system was flooded with reservations.

More than 800 people are pencilled in to visit the covered and heated bar, which will open from Wednesday through to Sunday every week.

Amy Windsor, general manager of the Telegraph Hotel, said: “We are thrilled that we finally have some dates that we can work towards and know that we will soon be fully operational and welcoming in guests.

“So many people have been really disappointed that we haven’t been able to open Coventry is yearning for a touch of glamour and it will be great to see people going out to enjoy themselves.

“The fact that we can open the rooftop bar in April means that people will get a small sample of what we can offer, before being able to give the full experience in May.

“Lockdown has really heightened anticipation and our guests won’t be disappointed.”

Ms Windsor added: “We are offering a table service at Generators which is fully outdoor, with a maximum of six people operated within Government guidelines in a safe environment.

“Tables have to be booked in advance.”

The Telegraph Hotel, created by Complex Development Projects, features 88 airconditioned bedrooms including loft style penthouse suites on two levels.

The hotel features an allday cocktail bar and restaurant dining experience, Forme & Chase for a full meal, light bites, celebration dinners, afternoon tea and more.

Conferencing, weddings and events are also catered for with the Editors function space - capable of accommodating up to 160 guests across a range of layouts. The hotel’s most luxurious room is the Lord Iliffe Suite - named after the family who founded the Coventry Telegraph - which includes its own hot tub and terrace.

There is also the Winter Garden - a private, glazed indoor terrace only accessible from the 11 bedrooms that surround it.

The hotel will be operated by Bespoke Hotels, the largest independent hotel company in the UK.

There are also two private meeting rooms - the Boardroom and Directors - which can each accommodate up to 12 people for smaller meetings and private dinners.

The south-facing Generators rooftop bar overlooking Belgrade Square offers a yearround outdoor experience.
