Work on landmark Hilton hotel set to start in summer
NUNEATON’S new landmark hotel will be part of the Hilton chain.
It has been confirmed an agreement has been made with Hampton by Hilton, Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and its strategic development partner Queensberry - to open Hampton by Hilton Nuneaton.
It will be built on the former Co-op car park and will boast 145 rooms.
The Hampton by Hilton Nuneaton will be one of the first UK hotels to feature Hampton by Hilton’s refreshed interior designs, including flexible social spaces.
The planning application for the hotel, which kick-starts the huge Abbey Street regeneration scheme, has now been officially submitted.
At that time, who would run the hotel had not been revealed.
Now it has been confirmed construction is expected to start this summer, subject to planning approval Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice president, development, EMEA, Hilton, said : “Hampton by Hilton Nuneaton is an important addition to this ambitious town centre redevelopment, and will support the growth of Nuneaton as a regional business and leisure hub.
“Now, more than ever, hospitality can play a vital role in reinvigorating the high street, and we look forward to welcoming guests at the hotel, which joins more than 200 Hilton properties trading or under development across the UK & Ireland.”
Cllr Julie Jackson, Leader of the Borough Council added: “I am delighted to see this agreement come to fruition. I am in no doubt that the hotel will prove to be a great asset to the Abbey Street development and Nuneaton as a whole. We look forward to working with Hilton and Queensberry to progress the construction of the hotel over the coming months.”
The council has previously revealed an eight point plan of what it would like the regenerated Abbey Street area to look like. Within this are plans for a five screen cinema as well as a multi-storey car park on the Abbey Street car park site, as well as proposals for a food hall, shops and public plaza for part of the former Co-op building.
Rob Hughes, development manager for Queensberry, which is the development partner, explained: “As the council’s strategic development partner we are delighted that Hampton by Hilton is the confirmed hotel operator for this exciting mixed use scheme and it demonstrates both confidence and commitment of Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council and Hilton, an international brand, to this Abbey Street regeneration project.
