LOCKED DOWN (15)

-

Crime pays for a feuding couple in Doug Liman’s light-fingered comedy drama, which was hastily written and filmed in London during the pandemic. The rewards for us, however, are less bountiful.

Delivery driver Paxton (Chiwetel Ejiofor) lives in the capital with his American girlfriend Linda (Anne Hathaway), who is a high-flyer in the world of fashion.

They decide to separate just as

England goes into lockdown.

Trapped in the house together and simmering with resentment, they turn to wine to help them escape their harsh reality. In this midst of the downward spiral, they hatch an elaborate plan to steal a diamond worth £3m from Harrods, where Linda has been tasked with removing the fashion stock from the department store floor.

This high-stakes caper provides them with an unexpected common purpose just as their relationship is falling apart.

The heist is reserved for the final half-hour and won’t be earning the begrudging admiration of Danny Ocean and his associates.
