MAN STABBED IN THE HEAD

A MAN has been arrested and charged after another man was stabbed in the head in Coventry.

Police and the ambulance service were called to an incident on Goring Road, off Clay Lane, Stoke, late on Sunday night (March 14).

The victim, in his 30s, received treatment at the scene before being taken to hospital. His injuries are said not to be lifethreat­ening.

West Midlands Police say it has now charged a 48-year-old man with wounding and possessing an offensive weapon.

He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We were called to reports of a stabbing on Goring Road in Coventry around 10.30pm on Sunday (March 14).

“A 37-year-old man was taken to hospital with a head wound. His injuries are not believed to be life threatenin­g or life changing.

“We have charged Mark Obrien, aged 48, of Goring Road, Coventry, with wounding and possession of an offensive weapon. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in court at a later date.”

A West Midlands Ambulance spokesman said: “We were called at 10.34pm on Sunday night to a stabbing on Goring Road. We sent one ambulance and a paramedic officer.

“On arrival we discovered one patient, and man, who was treated for injuries not thought to be serious before being taken to hospital for further treatment.”

Knife crime has been an issue in Coventry in recent weeks.

Last Wednesday (March 10) a schoolboy was left in a serious condition after being stabbed in Tile Hill while a man in his 20s was stabbed on Sewell Highway just hours later.

A boy was also chased by a knife wielding gang the same day.
