‘Massive cookie reward’ after bakery delivery vehicle stolen

- By NAOMI DE SOUZA

A FAMILY bakery in Coventry has spoken of their shock at their beloved cookie delivery vehicle being stolen from right under their noses.

Sally and Giles Rees run Wicked Cookies, a popular bakery with bases in Coventry and Nuneaton.

Their family SUV - which they describe as a valued member of the Wicked Cookies team - was stolen off the drive at their family home in Coundon.

The vehicle, which they use for all of their deliveries, was taken on Sunday March 14 as they sat in their front room playing games to celebrate Mother’s Day.

It was only until much later in the evening they realised it had been stolen off their drive.

They have since tried to track it down, and have offered a “massive cookie reward” to anyone with information.

In a Facebook post, Wicked Cookies wrote: “Yesterday evening, our old friend, our trusty Wicked Cookies Nissan Xtrail, was stolen off our drive in Coventry between 6pm and 11pm .... from under our noses!

“We saw nothing, heard nothing, it was locked and both sets of keys are still safely in our possession.

“That amazing car has huge sentimental value to our Wicked Cookies family and has carried and delivered more cookies than you could possibly imagine.”

Aside from the 100 odd eggs in the boot, Sally said that it was the sentimental loss that was the biggest blow.

“That car if you like, was the moment we scaled up, it was our Wicked Cookies progress car,” she said.

“That was our big car that got all the cookies in, and it was a massive treat, it served us so well. We needed something that went through all weathers because markets happen regardless.

“It’s been with us, when I look at the pictures, and you can see how little the kids were, their progress and how much they’ve learnt in the time that has been our Wicked Cookies run around.”

Husband and wife team Sally and Giles Rees quit their jobs in January 2018 to run Wicked Cookies full time, after setting it up in 2016.

They are also helped by their two children Bailey and Zac.

They have a bakery in Nuneaton in addition to their small scale kitchen in their house in Coundon.

Sally said they take precautions every night, locking the cars and moving the keys to the back end of the house when they go to sleep. She said: “I cannot believe we did not know at all, it’s unreal, the police are saying to get a Faraday pouch to keep the keys which helps to stop the signal being boosted from the car keys, it’s not 100% foolproof, but basically it sounds like what happens is they come along, have a machine to boost the signal, unlock the car and drive off.”

The family have been driving around the city to see if they can spot the car.

And loyal cookie fans also offered their help. Sally said: “We’ve had over 10,000 people view the Facebook post, we literally have just had so many messages, really lovely, people saying we don’t deserve, it really gutted for you, that sort of support, it really means the world to us.

“Everyone is going through stuff right now, everyone is struggling. When the chips are down and something happens you realise how many people care about what you do.”

Sally and Giles are offering a “massive cookie reward” to anyone that spots their car, a white Nissan X-trail Tekna.

“That car has been there, never failed us, it’s part of our Wicked Cookies team,” Sally said.

If you spot the family’s car contact Wicked Cookies on Facebook or email their live chat at www.wickedcookies.co.uk
