POPULAR American burger chain Five Guys has revealed it is coming to Coventry.

The popular diner has for a long time said it was looking to open an outlet in the city - with bosses looking for a suitable site.

Five Guys has not yet revealed the location of its Coventry restaurant but has said it will open this summer.

The new restaurant will certainly be located in the city centre.

Five Guys, which topped a Coventrylive poll for the new eatery most would like to see open in the city, has in the past been linked with the Cathedral Lanes shopping centre.

As far back as 2017 we speculated about Five Guys coming to the city and at the time a spokesman for the company confirmed that Coventry was being looked at and that potential sites were being explored.

Back then the spokesman said: “It’s great to see the people of Coventry have shown an interest in a Five Guys restaurant opening at Cathedral Lanes.

“It’s a vibrant shopping area we’d like to have a store somewhere in Coventry, but at this stage we haven’t found the right opportunity and are continuing our search for the right location.”

In a Telegraph internet poll in January 2017 Five Guys overwhelmingly emerged as the restaurant Coventrians wanted to see come to the city.

More than a third of people voted for the burger joint, followed by Turtle Bay (21 per cent) and Handmade Burger Co (19 per cent).

Each time since then that we have approached Five Guys regarding a possible opening in the city the answer has been that there was nothing new to confirm but that the company was “still looking”.

However this week a Five Guys spokesman has confirmed a Coventry restaurant is coming this summer.

The spokesman said: “I can confirm we’re opening in the summer.”

The spokesman added that they would share further information on the restaurant as soon as they were able to.

Five Guys has proved a huge hit since launching in the UK and has restaurants in Solihull, Leicester and Birmingham.

Five Guys was established in 1986 by the Murrell family in Virginia in the US and launched in the UK in 2013.

Appropriately the first UK restaurant opened on July 4 that year.

Five Guys says it prides itself on using the freshest ingredients and customers can find out which local farm the potatoes have come from by checking out the restaurant’s notice board.

Burgers are grilled to order, while the fries are hand cut every morning and cooked in peanut oil.

Five Guys says there are 250,000 possible burger combinations and more than 1,000 possible ways to customise your milkshake.
