MARK Robins admits his Coventry City side should have beaten bottom club Wycombe Wanderers on a frustrating afternoon at St Andrew’s.
The Sky Blues once again passed up clear cut chances to get themselves ahead in a dominant first half against the Chairboys on a costly afternoon in terms of both points and injuries as skipper Liam Kelly and star wing-back Fankaty Dabo both limped off either side of the break with concerning issues.
“We’ve probably created more in this game than we have done in any other game we’ve played against them and not taken them,” said City boss Robins, speaking after the goalless draw.
“That’s the frustration. From Tuesday night’s game, coming into this one, we’ve defended pretty well, we won everything. They didn’t have a really good opportunity at any point in the game.
“We’ve created a number of clearcut chances and should have taken them. We could have been three or four-nil up in the first half but didn’t take one.”
He added: “They’re a team that puts you under huge pressure physically and they have moments in games that can put you on the back foot and we went away from what we’re good at.
“When I made the changes in the second-half, some of which were forced, you lose certain qualities that give you the ability to play the way that we did in the first half.
“It’s just a case of taking your chances, it relieves the pressure on everybody and you go on and win that game comfortably.
“We’ve said that so many times, it’s the circumstances around games and the time of season that we’re at.
“We’ve just got to keep going, it’s not all doom and gloom, from our point of view we should have won the game, that makes things a little bit easier.
“We never do things easy that’s for sure.”
As for the injuries, Robins confirmed that Dabo has pulled a hamstring, the seriousness of which is yet to be ascertained.
And Kelly’s issue doesn’t sound good, the manager revealing: “He said he felt something pop in his knee.
“You know what Kels is like, if he’s injured he’s injured properly.
“So I predict that ain’t a great one, but hopefully I’m wrong.”
