Hundreds of cannabis plants found in raid on neighbouring drug farms

-

COVENTRY Police have found hundreds of cannabis plants after raiding a home suspected of being an illegal drug farm.

Officers raided a property on Gulson Road yesterday after suspecting that the house was being used to grow cannabis.

After breaking through the door police officers found 134 plants but once inside they began to suspect that the operation was bigger than they had first realised.

After checking the electrical wiring, officers began to suspect that the property next door was also being used as a cannabis farm.

Using emergency powers Coventry Police then gained access to the second property and found more drugs.

The second property contained 183 infant plants.

After studying the electrical connections, a third property on the street was suspected of being involved in the drug growing operation. Officers gained access to the building but no drugs were found.

Staff from Western Power then made the properties’ electrical connections safe, ensuring that a fire did not break out.

Coventry Police described the events via the Coventry City Centre Police Twitter account.

The force said: “This morning officers from T3 have had intel in relation to a possible cannabis grow on Gulson Road. Emergency warrant obtained, entry gained with 134 Cannabis plants found. Whilst at the address, officers suspected a neighbouring property may also have been a cannabis factory.

“As such, entry was gained utilising emergency powers as we were concerned over the electrical connection and possible fire risk. Within the second property was a set up of 183 infant cannabis plants. Whilst at this second address a third address on the same terraced row.

“Was identified as a possible cannabis grow also, again utilising our emergency powers we gained entry. Within this address we found that the electricity had been bypassed as it had been in the other three however there were no cannabis plants in the third address.

“Working closely with our partners at Western Power, we were able to immediately make the properties safe. By doing this we have been able to prevent an electrical fire at all three properties and prevent potential fatalities.”
