Covid-19 marshals on Easter weekend patrols

- By CLAIRE HARRISON

COVID marshals will patrol parks over the Easter weekend to ensure that people are sticking to the rules.

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council has revealed that the marshals, which they call Covid advisers, will be out in Riversley Park, the Miners Welfare Park and roaming around other areas over the Easter Bank Holiday.

Under the Government’s lockdown roadmap, from March 29, when most schools start to break up for the Easter holidays, outdoor gatherings, including in private gardens, of either six people or two households will be allowed, making it easier for friends and families to meet outside.

But the marshals will be tasked with ensuring that larger groups are not gathering and breaking the lockdown laws.

Councillor Ian Lloyd, cabinet member for arts and leisure at the Town Hall, explained: “The

Covid advisers will be there on hand to advise visitors of the current restrictions and to help keep our parks safe for all to use and enjoy over coming weekends.’”

Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council leader councillor Julie Jackson said: “Our Covid advisers are doing a valuable job in our borough and are available to offer advice to members of the public and the business community about the current rules and restrictions.

“We would also like to remind people to stick to the rules regarding Covid-19, especially over the coming bank holidays and as the restrictions are hopefully gradually lifted.

“We have to keep putting into practice the advice we have all been given, as it is based on the best knowledge of this virus.”

Nuneaton and Bedworth was the second area in Warwickshire to introduce marshals.

Back in September 2020, the county’s first Covid-19 marshals were deployed in Rugby.
