- By JAMES RODGER News Reporter

A COVENTRY care worker has died weeks after catching Covid-19, leaving her three children behind.

Laura Tamne died at UHCW following three weeks of treatment – two of which she spent on a ventilator.

She leaves behind partner Lee Ashton and her three children Lewis, aged 12, Dylan, aged eight and three-year-old Emelia.

Mr Ashton, from Coventry, paid tribute to his soulmate, who worked with the NHS for 15 years.

The couple had already had to deal with the trauma of losing their eightmonth-old baby boy Jacob in December 2019 after he contracted pneumonia.

Mr Ashton, 42, said: “After about eight or nine days, I had to ring an ambulance, because she couldn’t breathe. They took her to hospital and she was on a CPAP (continuous positive airway pressure) machine at University Hospital Coventry for seven days.

“Then they had to put her on a ventilator,

and she was on that for two weeks.

“To be honest, I am still in shock,” he added, revealing that they both had initially displayed symptoms of the deadly virus, which claimed 49 more lives according to the latest official figures from the public health bodies in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Laura died from organ failure. Lee added: “She was my absolute soulmate. I thought she’d just go in and come out – that didn’t happen.

“I am just sitting here, thinking ‘what am I going to do?’ I loved her. I’m left here to pick up everything, and do what’s best for the kids.”
