Search for new boss of young guns begins at Boro

- By PETE WARRINGTON

NUNEATON Borough FC are on the lookout for a new manager to take charge of their returning Under-21 side.

The club revealed the news this week giving players a pathway from the youngest age group all the way through to the first team.

A club spokesman said: “We created this side for the 2019/20 season and the team did very well in difficult circumstances but for logistical reasons this side was put on hold for the current season. The intention was to always bring it back and we are now in a position to do this.

“A lot has happened in the short time we have been in existence and we have had some minor setbacks along the way. At times we have to take one step backwards to take three steps forward and this instance proves that again as we are better prepared and ready to try and create the next generation of Boro players.

“With the Under-21s now back in our armoury we have sides from the Boro Ballers (four to six-year-old) through to Under-18s as well as the full time Academy, Ladies’ side and our brand new girls’ section that kicks-off next month.

“We have also formed an exciting link with this season’s club captain

Carl Baker and his full-time Btec “Carl Baker Academy” based in Coventry.

“We spoke to Carl a couple of times during the season and he wanted us to work together to create a pathway for his full-time academy lads to feed into a semi-pro team. After some really positive discussions the association has now been formed.

“Carl’s players, as well as our own Academy lads, will form a large part of the Under-21 Development Squad to continue their growth and fulfil their ambition to be footballers.” Baker (left) said he was really excited to be linking up with Nuneaton Borough in setting up a new Under-21s team.

“This will be a great pathway for the Carl Baker Academy players, as well as others, and our aim is to filter players through to the senior first team squad to be given an opportunity to show what they can do at a club that is now heading in the right direction.”

Head of Nuneaton Borough Academy, and current Under-18s manager, Lee Petch said: “It is great news that the club will be implementing the Under-21s again next season. The age group is vital in preparing and refining the attributes needed to be successful in progressing to first team football, especially at the standard that our first team play.

“These new additions will complement and enhance the work that the junior section have put in place and give the players in our well-established Under-18s set-up the perfect platform to continue their player progression.

“This season’s academy model has been a huge success building upon the current Under-18 Floodlit and MJPL squads. This gives the club one of the best Under-18s’ sections across the district and by now implementing the Under-21s this will complete the clubs clear player pathway into first-team football.” n The club will be looking to conduct interviews for the Under-21 manager’s position – anyone interested in applying for the role please email chairman@ nuneatonboroughfc.com for more information.
