Not good enough ... and we all have to accept it – boss

-

MARK Robins says his Coventry City players know they weren’t good enough on the day to get anything at Queens Park Rangers.

The Sky Blues fell behind to a secondminute goal and took a 3-0 thumping that could have been 6-0 had it not been for some decent saves from Marko Marosi in goal.

After their 12th Championship defeat on the road, manager Robins admitted: “We have to change our mindset away from home.

“The players know it wasn’t good enough today. They have not given a true account of themselves. They were second to a lot of the balls and it was too easy for them.

“The second goal was a set-play, the set-up was possibly wrong and that, in a nutshell, away from home has been our season so far and we have to change something.”

He added: “We just didn’t perform, we’re missing passes, we’re allowing people to drop off into pockets of space and not go with them, you have to have that aggressive mindset.”

Robins stressed they will quickly need to get over the defeat to prepare for Monday’s home game against Bristol City.

“You can’t stay disappointed, I’ve got to get them up and ready for Monday which we will. Home and away it’s chalk and cheese, it’s just ridiculous,” said Robins.

“Whilst I want to say we’re going to have a go at teams, but when they’re better than you at stages in games it makes it very difficult and anybody can start to play at three-nil down. It feels like it’s a comfort blanket to be goals down away from home. We’ve got to get that out of our system and start to pick up the points because there’s eight games left.

“It’s about not being too down and being ready to go for the next eight games and really the next one is the big game, we’ve got to be ready for that.”

“I’ve got to make sure that we stay focused on the next game. That is the most important thing for us and not get too down. It’s very disappointing for everybody, nobody likes losing.

“We didn’t lay a glove on them really until the second half, when we got Tyler [Walker] on with Viktor [Gyokeres]. The first thing they do is link up. We’re goals down by that stage, and they get a chance to score.

“One of their players has thrown his body in front and blocked it which stopped a certain goal, that’s one of the differences between the two teams. They won every first contact in the box and we didn’t.”
