The 4-year-old who knows every country by its outline and flag

NUNEATON has a pint-sized geography genius who can recall every country by its outline and flag.

Freddie Fenn has not only astounded his friends and family, but also teachers and quizzers across the country with his incredible memory.

At just four years old he can tell any country in the world by its outline, as well as its individual flag.

He also knows all of the states in America.

Despite only starting reception at Glendale Infant School in Nuneaton in September last year, the little Granby Road resident can also add up triple figures.

Started when he was just twohis mum Laura said they first noticed his talents when he was just two.

“He learned all of the planets, he learnt them in order and he could tell them by looking at them,” she said.

“We started to realise that his memory was fantastic.”

He then moved onto the Pixar film Cars, notably the books.

“He learned all of the characters from the books - some that did not feature in the film, then he went onto Thomas the Tank Engine and learned every single engine,” the mum-of-three said.

And when Freddie started nursery he dazzled staff there.

“They said to me ‘do you know he can count to 100?’ and I said ‘he can count to 1,000’ - it was then that I started to realise he had something special,” the mum said.

He then moved onto the map of the world.

“He learned all 195 flags, he can recall every single one of them,” she said.

“This is not in order, it is at random, he can also tell each country by its outline.

“My uncle bought a book with all of the American states in it, he [Freddie) knows them all. He knows all 50 American states, their outlines and their capitals, he even knows all 50 states flags.

“He absolutely astounds me.” The Fenn family have been taking part in Facebook speed quizzes since the start of lockdown in March last year. They are held twice a week and Freddie took a huge interest - stunning people all over the country with his knowledge, so much so that the quiz master put on a special geography-themed quiz.

Out of 60 adult teams, Freddie came fifth - and he only dropped marks because his mum was inputting the answers for him.

“Freddie was so excited, he kept jumping up and down,” she said. “Some of the answers he came up with a lot of the teams did not get - he is four!”

At Glendale School he is doing mathematics work for much older children.

“He knows all of the square numbers,” she said. “He is doing addition with double and triple figures, we don’t ever force him into it. My husband Kyle got him a whiteboard and he sits and creates his own flags and does his own thing.

“I have never known anyone like him,” his mum said.

But if you ask him what he wants to be when he grows up - the answer is not what you’d expect.

“He wants to be a daddy, that’s what he says,” Laura added.

“He has such a close bond with my husband, he (Freddie) just says he wants to be a daddy.”

But the world could be his oyster.

“It excites me what he could be,” she said. “If he can recall what he can recall now, what is he going to be like in secondary school?”
