Jag reveals when its new Range Rover Sport will be unveiled
JAGUAR Land Rover has announced when the all-new Range Rover Sport will be unveiled to the world.
The covers will come off the new model on May 10, the Coventry car maker has revealed.
The announcement follows a number of sightings of camouflaged Range Rover Sport prototypes on local roads. One was snapped travelling along High Street in Henley-in-arden in March.
That sighting came just a few weeks after a Range Rover Sport prototype was spotted parked-up in Nuneaton. The camouflaged car was at the Nuneaton Academy Sports Centre.
The prototypes are easily identifiable as the all-new Range Rover Sport. The camouflage on the prototype of the third generation version of the Range Rover Sport is lighter than on prototypes seen previously, generally an indication that its unveiling is not far off.
Camouflaged prototype Jaguar and Land Rover models are a common enough sight on Coventry and Warwickshire roads.
The test vehicles are based at Jaguar Land Rover’s design and engineering centre in Gaydon. The launch of the new Range Rover Sport will follow on from the launch of the latest version of Land Rover’s flagship model - the Range Rover. It was revealed to the world in October last year.
There are some giveaways as regards features of the new model.
The door handles have sunk into the doors themselves, a feature that was first rolled out on the Range Rover Velar.
Like the Range Rover, the Range Rover Sport will be based on Jaguar Land Rover’s new MLA platform. The range will feature mild hybrid technology as well as full plug-in hybrid powertrains.
The Range Rover Sport was the first addition to the Range Rover family to supplement the original Range Rover. Since then the family has grown further with the Evoque and Velar models.
Based on the Range Stormer concept vehicle, the original version was unveiled at the 2004 North American International Auto Show.
The new Range Rover Sport will most likely be produced at the Jaguar Land Rover factory in Solihull, with SVR versions made at the Coventry car maker’s Special Vehicle Operations facility at Ryton.
