Affection for Jodi shown after cameo

-

JODI Jones once again showed a glimpse of his quality with another late cameo for Coventry City at the weekend.

The 24-year-old was sent on for the last 13 minutes of Saturday’s CBS Arena match with Huddersfield Town and made a swift and lively impact, helping the Sky Blues to pull a goal back when he started a four-man move that resulted in Viktor Gyokeres scoring a late consolation in the 2-1 home defeat.

His appearance was one of only eight in the Championship in a comeback season that’s been dogged by niggling injuries and limited opportunities. But when he has been available and given a bit of game time he has shown there’s still plenty of quality in his boots, not least when he provided the assist for Matty Godden’s late equaliser against the Terriers earlier in the season before making a telling contribution to help City push for a late point at Bournemouth.

A swollen knee then set back his progress and he required a minor tidy-up cartilage op before returning to the bench at the weekend to give Mark Robins a little reminder ahead of Saturday’s last match of the season at Stoke City.

Although out of contract in the summer, City have an option to extend his contract for another season.

Whether that happens or whether the fan favourite moves on remains to be seen, but there is no disputing the affection Jones and the supporters have for each other.

The player said on Twitter: “Disappointing result today but buzzing to be back playing in front of you fans!”

Here’s what the fans have been saying.

Sir Sidney: “Nice move between yourself, Tavares, O’hare, and Gyokeres for the goal. Offered something different when you came on. Whatever the future holds, good luck (personally hope you get another season here).”

Clarkey: “Why haven’t you played more this season so much class when you came on #gamechanger.”

Tom Sharman: “Top notch when you come on!”

Stephen Meagher: “Get some rest and get yourself back healthy for next year mate. An injury free period behind you now, onwards and upwards. We need your pace to be up there next season.”
