New metal-clad teaching block plan for school

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

CGIS show the metal-clad new teaching block plan for a Nuneaton secondary school.

The Etone College revealed that it planned to demolish its old 1950s block as part of expansion plans to keep up with demand on school places in the area.

Now the school, the second smallest secondary in the town, has revealed what it plans to replace it with - a new two-storey teaching block.

It will be based between the existing ‘building 25 classroom,’ sports hall and pitch.

It will feature a balcony area with a roof top plant area. There will also be a lift, toilets and new teaching areas.

The planning application, which has been submitted to Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council, explains: “The proposal is for the development of additional classroom accommodation to cater for an increase in the school cohort and to provide modern teaching environments within the school grounds.

“It is an established use on the site and does not involve the removal or alteration of any existing building,

“The proposal provides an opportunity to improve the school’s educational provision and allow for an increase in the number of form entry in each year in line with planned and required need for school places in the local area.

“The proposal does not amend any of the school’s vehicular or pedestrian circulation, site entry and exit positions, parking provision nor affect the sports pitches.

“The new building will be designed in terms of entrance location, horizontal and vertical circulation and sanitary provision to allow for inclusive access to all-floor areas within the developed accommodation.”

Members of the council’s planning team are now looking at the proposals, which can be found on the council’s website.

They will then make a recommendation on whether they should be given the green light. The target decision date has been set as July 29.
