College in bid to trace former apprentices to join Jubilee celebrations
APPEAL TO FIND STUDENTS FROM AS FAR BACK AS 1950s
NUNEATON’S college wants to trace former apprentices who have studied at the college since the 1950s as part of Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College (NWSLC) wants to hear from previous apprentices who studied with the college during the Queen’s reign.
They want them to share their stories about how the apprenticeship at what was then known as the ‘tech’ helped to kickstart their career or business.
These stories will be used as part of the college’s planned tribute to the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
Chris Tullin, assistant principal at NWSLC, explained: “Apprenticeships in the 2020s look very different from the training that would have been provided at the start of the Queen’s reign.
“They now lead to formal qualifications, and can be started at any age, whether you are leaving school or making a career change within a new sector.
“Apprenticeships continue to evolve, and we are seeing increasingly attractive opportunities across a range of sectors to reflect changes in the employment market brought about by the pandemic and the current economic situation. An apprenticeship offers a full-time job with professional training built in. For businesses, they can be a cost-effective way to secure succession planning and boost growth.”
Anyone who completed an apprenticeship with the college since the 1950s can take part in the special tribute.
People are being urged to contact the college via marketing@nwslc.ac.uk
The deadline for people to get in touch is Friday, May 27.
