All knitted out for a right royal knees up in town

THE seed has been sown, or rather sewn, for a right royal knees up in Kenilworth.

The town is taking its celebration of The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee not all that seriously with a procession of embroidered Beefeaters along the town’s main thoroughfare.

Crocheted guards have taken pride of place on several bollards lining Warwick Road, while woven Crown Jewels have made a sudden appearance atop the Royal Mail chute. It’s all part of a stunt fun-loving creator Carol Davison brands ‘yarn bombing.’

“Please respect the work that has gone into making this installation and leave it in place for everyone young and not so young,” she writes in a quirky note attached to one of her ceremonial creations.

“Feel free to take a picture of me and share it on your Facebook page and tell your friends to come and see me. Thank you. Carol D.”

Carol revealed on Facebook how she was ‘both proud and humbled’ by the community’s reaction to her ‘installations.’

“My aim is to bring a smile to as many faces as I can, so thank you to you all,” she wrote.

Her sovereign designs have attracted huge attention and even earned her a slot on ITV News Central.

And they’ve been incredibly well received by people in the town with many giving their royal seal of approval in response to Carol’s Facebook post.

Avis Thompson said: “Brilliant, we are so lucky in Kenilworth to have people who go to all this trouble to brighten our days ..... thank you.”

Fern Arnold was equally as complimentary, saying: “Your creations are beautiful. I regularly walk past the sorting office to see what is on top of the red letter boxes.

“Thank you for bringing a smile to my face.”

Amber Seaton said: “You are so very creative. Thank you for bringing a little joy to our wonderful town!”

Pearl Woodward said the knitwear was ‘a lovely tribute’ to The Queen’s Jubilee.

“You are a very talented lady, a BIG THANK YOU from the people of Kenilworth,” she said.

Emma Lord said: “They’re wonderful Carol! You’re so talented.”

And Sal de Bal wrote: “Thank you for the guards, the Royal postbox, the Ukraine postbox and all the wonderful decorations you have made over the past few years.”
