GET UP, GET OUT AND GET WILD
The RSPB is encouraging families to get closer to nature this summer by taking part in their Wild Challenge activities.
By completing a range of tasks your clan can experience and help nature, while earning free Wild Challenge Awards.
The organisation says summer is the perfect time of year for everyone to have fun getting to know the nature on their doorsteps, when our gardens, windowboxes, parks, and even washing-up bowl ponds, are teeming with wildlife. It’s when they are alive, they say, with hundreds of weird and wonderful creepy crawlies, bugs and beasties, secretive moths, showy butterflies, and underwater critters.
Rosalind Allen, RSPB education and families development officer, says of Wild Challenge: “It’s really flexible and you can do many of the activities in your local area or your garden.
“There are great ideas and simple instructions on our website so people can get outside, get closer to nature, and make a difference where they live.”
To take part, all you need to do is create an account and an online profile, and within a few steps you’ll be ready to get stuck in to your wild adventure.
You can go as quickly or slowly as you like and there’s a wide
range of activities to suit your needs and location, from creating a bird bath to upcycling for nature, having a wild sleep out, going rockpooling, or building
a hedgehog café.
There’s something to do throughout the year – no matter what the weather’s like – and all you need is to complete three activities from each section to earn each level of award: bronze, silver, and gold.
