Foodbank to launch urgent donation drive as stocks hit

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

NUNEATON Foodbank is hosting an urgent donation drive at Tesco as stocks are ‘depleting’.

The cost of living crisis has led to demand soaring for help from the foodbank.

The stark reality is that the charity is helping almost double the number of people now compared to this time last year.

Not only that, the cost of living crisis has impacted the foodbank in another way because there has been a ‘significant’ fall in the amount of food being donated.

This means stock in the warehouse is depleting to the extent that the foodbank is having to dip into its donated funds to ensure that it has enough to fill the increasing number of food parcels.

David Stanier, chair of the Nuneaton Foodbank committee said: “We can’t emphasise enough how so very grateful we are to all of our generous donors who continue to donate to support those in need in our local community, but the cost of living crisis has impacted significantly on our donors too, who have also seen a big rise in costs of everyday shopping items.

“This has understandably meant that the amount of food donated has decreased, and we are having to purchase essential items from donated funds, in order to make up complete food parcels for those being referred by professional agencies to the Nuneaton Foodbank.” In a bid help restock the warehouse at a time when the emergency food parcels are so desperately needed, the foodbank is hosting a food drive. It is being held at Tesco in Bedworth on Thursday, June 30, July 1 and July 2.

“We really hope that this will be well supported and will help us in this challenging situation,” he said. To help make the event a success, the foodbank needs volunteers to help man the stalls during the three day drive.

Anyone who can spare any time should email nfbcollections@gmail.com Those who cannot volunteer but would like to help the foodbank can make a donation during the event.

Food and toiletries can also be donated at drop off points in Asda Nuneaton, Sainsbury’s, Attleborough Co-op Bulkington Co-op, Galley Common Co-op and also Dunelm Mill.
