Drug raid at city house prompts police appeal

- By JASPREET KAUR News Reporter

POLICE have destroyed more than 150 cannabis plants uncovered at a derelict property in Coventry.

Officers raided the property in Princess Street on Wednesday (June 22).

A local, who wished to remain anonymous, said: “I saw a police presence and Western Power electrical contractors and part of the road was blocked as I was driving through Station Street East. I saw police taking dozens of cannabis plants out of the house”.

It comes after fire crews discovered a cannabis factory at a property elsewhere in the city.

Firefighters found the cannabis grow within the roof of a terraced house in Melbourne Road, Spon End. Police seized the drugs, although no arrests have yet been made.

In addition, it emerged that another Coventry property had been raided. A total of 200 plants were taken from a cannabis factory in the Edgwick area of Coventry.

Detectives say anyone who has information about drugs being grown in their area may be entitled to a reward from Crimestoppers.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “We have destroyed 158 cannabis plants found at an empty house on Princess Street, Coventry on Wednesday (22 June).

“Call the Crimestoppers charity on 0800 555 111 if you know who is growing drugs in your area. You may be entitled to a reward.”

Last year, West Midlands Police raided more than 250 large cannabis factories in the region and seized drugs valued at £84 million.

Police recently issued a stark warning to criminals saying, ‘If you grow it, we will find it’ as they continue the fight against organised crime groups.
