Cash is a question for Sky Blues boss in pre-season look

-

PRE-SEASON is a particularly exciting time for young players at Coventry City, and this summer is no different with manager Mark Robins ready to run the rule over several of his development professionals.

The Sky Blues boss has brought six of he club’s Under-23s into the first team fold for the first few weeks as the City boss builds into the club’s third season back in the Championship. Although working hard to recruit quality new players to strengthen his squad, Robins has only made one signing so far in the current transfer window with the arrival of playmaker Kasey Palmer from Bristol City.

And until further new faces are secured it provides an opportunity for the club’s younger personnel to catch the manager’s eye on the training ground and in the early friendly fixtures.

And one player Robins is looking forward to casting his eye over is Danny Cashman. The 21-year-old striker was signed from Brighton and Hove Albion on a free transfer last August and immediately sent out on a season-long loan to League

Two Rochdale, with whom he made 29 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.

Robins is also looking to see how Jack Burroughs has progressed after his loan spell in the Scottish Premier with Ross County, while four of the lads who starred in the Under-23s last term will also get an opportunity to showcase their talents.

“We are going to have some of the younger players join in with us at the start of pre-season anyway,” the City boss told the Coventry Telegraph, “so the likes fo Jack Burroughs has come back from Ross County, Josh Reid, Will Bapaga, Ryan Howley and Ricardo Dinanga. But also Danny Cashman, who I hadn’t met until the other day because when he signed last summer he went straight out to Rochdale, so it will be nice to finally see him and see what levels he can get to.

“It gives them an opportunity early on in pre-season and then we will be looking to add some good players, some really good quality as we go along and see what happens in the next few weeks.”
