- By MORGAN JOHNSON News Reporter

A PREGNANT woman had to be rescued from a Warwickshire pub fire.

The Nelson pub in Emscote Road, Warwick, caught alight at around 3am prompting fire, police and ambulance crews to be dispatched.

The outer building, where the garden area and toilets are located, went up in flames. The roof of the outdoor area has extensive damage and so does the seating area.

Pub landlord Tim Rogers said how he and his partner were away for the night celebrating her birthday. Tim said his pregnant step-daughter was the only one in the pub at the time and had to be evacuated by firefighters.

She was left needing care from West Midlands Ambulance Service. A spokesperson said: “We were called to reports of a fire on Emscote Road at 3.12am and sent a paramedic officer to the scene.

“We assessed one patient, a woman, who was able to make her own to hospital to be further assessed as a precaution.”

Tim said the main thing was that she was ok and no harm had come to her.

The pub has been forced to close but Tim said he hoped to open again soon.

“We need to have a clear up and then we can open as soon as possible,” he added.

“I’m just trying to find out from Environmental Health if they need to do checks or if we can just clean the toilets and open.”

A spokesperson for Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 03.07 on 28 June to reports of a fire in a public building.

“Crews attended the scene and, on arrival, found a fire located at the back of the building and outside the building.

“Crews were able to put out the fire by using two hose reels and breathing apparatus. Reinspection of building was carried out in the morning.”
