Didi hits the Heights with a first for Coventry team

-

TEAM Jewson rider Diana Egertonwarburton, better known as ‘Didi’, became the first member of the Coventry-based outfit to win the National Championship of another country.

On Saturday Didi won the Israeli National Ladies’ Time Trial Championship in the Golan Heights area. The race was over 23.6km and held in hot conditions with 12km of climbing included on excellent roads.

The team, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, has won more than 100 National Championships – but this is the first from another country. Didi lived and worked in Israel, but is now working at Warwick University and this is her second full season with Team Jewson.

It has been a great season for Didi, with a steady improvement in performance times. Team boss Mick

Ives said: “I am really pleased for Didi as she has worked so hard during the winter months to reach a very high level of fitness and has impressed us all with her recent rides.”

Meanwhile, Andy Oliver continues his battle to get into top shape following a recent leg operation. He finished eighth fastest in the Northants Tri Club Open 10-mile event with a time of 25mins 35secs, on what is considered a slow course.

Team-mate, veteran Simon Law from Nuneaton, was in brilliant form in the 10-mile event at Princethorpe, where he clocked a brilliant 20mins 54secs, his fastest of the season.

Team-mates Mark Wise recorded 21mins 15secs and Andy Jackson a personal best with 22mins 34secs.

Senior rider Tom Parsons continued his good form with third place in the Harvey Haddon Circuit series in Nottingham and with just one race left in the series he leads the way.
