City’s away shirt for new season is a KIT special

- By ANDY TURNER

COVENTRY City have launched the club’s new away kit which has already gone down a storm with fans.

The Sky Blues change strip is based on the away shirt of the 1995/96 Premier League season, seeing a return of a purple striped shirt with thin yellow lines.

The club say the shirt is completely bespoke to City, after the club worked closely with Hummel.

The shorts are also dark purple with chevrons on the side, while the socks are light purple with yellow chevrons and a dark purple trim.

Coventry City chief executive Dave Boddy said: “We are delighted to unveil our new away kit for the upcoming 2022/23 season.

“We know that fans have been keen for us to re-visit this shirts’ colours and style from our Premier League era and we hope that this will be popular with our supporters. “Following the theme from the home shirt, Coventry Cathedral is featured again with the inclusion in the stripes of three different bespoke remakes of stainedglass panels.

“Our team who works on the kit at the club have worked closely with Hummel to create another fantastic design and continues what is now becoming a tradition with us! After record breaking sales of the home shirt, we’re sure that this away kit will also be very popular with our supporters.”

Coventry City’s kits use Hummel’s ECO8 technology, meaning each shirt is manufactured from high-performing polyester produced from up to eight recycled plastic bottles.

The kits also feature Hummel’s ZEROH2O dry-dye technology, a ground-breaking process that ensures there is zero water consumption, zero wastewater and a 50 per cent reduction in energy consumption during the dying phase of production.
