‘Heroes and villains’ at Scarecrow Fest

-

SCARECROW ‘heroes and villains’ are set to spring up across a Nuneaton community. The third annual Weddington Scarecrow Festival will take place across the weekend of Saturday, October 15 and Sunday, October 16.

It was first started by Weddington Primary School’s Parent Teacher Association during lockdown as a way to bring some fun for families in the area in a safe, covid free environment. It was such a success that another was held last year and now the third event is being held due to popular demand.

Now anyone can pop along and enjoy the creativity of the scarecrows on show.

“Many residents asked if this was going to become an annual event,” said one of the organisers.

“It was a joy to watch families out and about completing the trail, enjoying precious time together as families, so we are holding one every year now.”

This year the theme is Heroes and Villains and will see householders across the area create their own scarecrows outside their homes for people to marvel at. Prizes will be given to scarecrows for first, second and third places.

For extra fun there will be ‘Secret Word’ and ‘Best Scarecrow Selfie’ competitions. Scarecrow seekers will have the opportunity to collect letters, which can found on scarecrows, and then decipher the mystery word.

A map which shows exactly where all of the scarecrows can be found can be bought for £1, from One Stop on Weddington Road, Steve Mellor and Daughter butchers, also on Weddington Road and also from Weddington Primary School during school hours.
