Fans’ mixed reaction to Ash takeover

COVENTRY City fans have given their reaction to reports that Mike Ashley is interested in buying Wasps, the CBS Arena and the Sky Blues.

The former Newcastle owner, who this summer attempted to buy Derby County, is reported to have ‘held talks’ with the Premiership rugby club about a potential takeover of the debtridden owners of the stadium, with claims that the billionaire’s main motivation is owning the Arena while also being interested in buying the football club.

Certainly, one wealthy owner of all three would appear to make sense and City’s owners, Sisu, were reported in August to be ‘open to offers’ from a potential buyer with the financial capabilities to capitalise on the financial difficulties unfolding at Wasps.

Here’s how Sky Blues fans have been reacting to the latest development.

James Mitchell: I wouldn’t mind having him, he would want the club to be a prem club to increase the value. I get the potential in football and the stadium… would he purchase Wasps just for the assets then bin them off? Not sure if there is Mike Ashley levels of money to be made in rugby.

Terry H: Why not? Stability and investment are needed.

Peter Chilton: As long as he gave the priority to the football club over the rugby club in terms of fixtures etc.

Dan Mcgranaghan: Absolutely taking this.

Iain Fletcher: Anyone at this point is it means a break from the last decade and is being funded properly for the level we are at. Can’t see this happening though. If two turkeys don’t make an eagle I’m not sure bolting another turkey on helps.

Scott Limes: It’s the only way forward.

Matt Goode: Don’t think this would be a popular opinion but I actually think it would be a good outcome for all parties. CCFC and the CBS would be under the same ownership, someone who actually has some cash to invest in CCFC and Wasps would be saved. Doubt he would want Wasps without CCFC.

Lee Roberts: Only if he’s planning to swiftly kick the egg chasers back down the M1.

Steve Jones: Don’t think it’ll happen unless it’s the only offer on the table as Ashley usually deals in low ball offers & bargain basement deals.
