Passion for helping others

-

GONE are the days when Miss England and Miss World competitions were about looks alone. Nowadays there are many aspects to the competitions, such as raising money for good causes

Last Friday, it was really lovely to hear Miss Coventry 2022, Sujaana Jeyaratnam, on BBC CWR, discussing why she decided to enter.

She is a very remarkable and busy young woman to say the least. Sujaana is a full-time Biomedical Science student and also works as a Social Worker.

She decided to enter the competition after seeing an advert on Facebook.

After more investigation, Sujaana soon discovered that Miss England are supporters of the charity ‘Beauty with a Purpose’, that just like her, support young people around the world.

Growing up, she immersed herself in her beloved Tamil community. That motivated her to help others, especially after hearing stories of what was happening to Tamil people in Sri Lanka, including her family who suffered in the midst of the war.

Sujaana’s journey helping others began at the tender age of just 16 when she started a private tutoring business that now provides free education to children in Sri Lanka and basic necessities to care homes and orphanages there.

Having become the first Tamil to have won a title in the Miss England Competition, Sujaana is grateful to be given the opportunity to represent the community she is very proud of.

By competing in this competition, Sujaana’s aim is to inspire more girls from the South Asian community to enter.

By winning Miss Coventry 2022 and being a Miss England finalist, she hopes to be a role model for many girls just like her.

The finals take place this weekend, 16th and 17th October.

The winner will be determined based on a number of rounds, including the Talent Round, People’s Choice, Publicity Round, Sports Round and the Charity Round, to name just a few.

The finalist with the most points will win Miss England and compete in Miss World 2022.

Sujaana is very honoured to be representing both Coventry and the South Asian community and we wish her all the very best.
