Appeal for tribute to remember wallaby
THE tragic loss of Warwickshire’s wellknown white wallaby Colin has prompted calls for a statue in his memory.
Some have gone as far as to say that the much-loved marsupial should also have a state funeral!
For more than a year the albino wallaby kept communities in south Warwickshire on their toes with sightings of him hopping anywhere from Kenilworth to Solihull.
But many were plunged into sadness after reports a white wallaby was killed when hit by a lorry late last week.
Many believe that it was Colin and now a ‘ Colin the Wallaby Funeral and Statue’ page has been set up on Gofundme. The tongue-in-cheek page asks for £10,000 to be raised in the name of ‘one of the escapologists of his generation.’
It reads “After Colin brought so much enjoyment to our lives I have decided to do a gofundme to pay for the funeral and future statue being erected. Colin escaped the brutal encagement a while ago and had been a fugitive through the rolling countryside of Warwickshire, appearing mainly between Lapworth and Kenilworth.
“He evaded many capture attempts and to this day, is one of the escapologists of his generation. This money will be dedicated to giving him the send off he deserves, followed in the near future by a statue, to replace the clock tower in Kenilworth.
“Proposed burial sites are currently in the new HS2 footings, under the proposed Weatherspoons(poundland) or under the footings during the ceremonial bulldozing of the Kenilworth clock tower to make way for said statue.”
The move has attracted plenty of traction and interest on the Kenilworth Vibes Facebook page.
