Giant illuminated puppets heading to town centre

- By CLAIRE HARRISON News Reporter

GIANT illuminated puppets will hit the streets of Nuneaton town centre at the end of this month.

They will light up the night sky around Newdegate Square and make their way through the town on Wednesday, October 26.

The puppets, known as Dundu and Baby Dundu, are being brought to the town by the same people who brought a six-metre high Lady Godiva model for the Nuneaton Lives event.

In July 2014, Coventry’s Imagineer Productions paraded the giant model paraded through the town centre and then it was lifted astride a huge sculptured horse to be transported by a multi-wheeled cyclodepia along into Riversley Park.

The same company have worked with Global Streets, international company, Dundu, and Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council to bring the giant puppets to the town centre.

It will be quite the spectacle according to Jane Hytch, Imagineers Productions CEO, who said: “Through years of stellar craftsmanship, original live music, and finely tuned puppeteering, we can bring a visual, interactive, mobile experience to Nuneaton.

“It is hard to describe the captivating nature of this glowing figure but when we see the lights light up in someone’s eyes, we know our puppets have achieved our goal - to instil a simple sense of wonder and togetherness in adults and children alike.

“The only thing larger than these giants are their hearts.”

The event will be held from 6.30pm and council leader Kris Wilson said it is something people will not want to miss.

“Yet again, we are supporting residents to enjoy new experiences, and this event promises to be another spectacular feature that the people of Nuneaton and Bedworth will get to see live and up close,” he said.

“Please do come down and join us if you are available. These things don’t happen that often.”
