The winners don’t realise they are the heroes, not the celebs

Made In Chelsea star Sam Thompson tells why he is thrilled to be hosting Pride of Britain’s Facebook Live from the Red Carpet

“PRIDE Of Britain always gets me,” admits Sam Thompson, “to be in the vicinity of these award winners, these absolute titans, is going to be such an honour. They have changed the world in their own way, they have made it a little bit better, and I am so lucky to be part of it this year.”

Sam will be hosting Pride of Britain’s Facebook Live from the Red Carpet and says it will be one of the proudest moments of his career.

“You watch these people come up on stage and they don’t realise that they are the heroes and not the celebrities in the audience. You sit there and look at them and they are the best of the best. They are the glue that is my hope for humanity. It

makes me so emotional.” Sam has made his name appearing in TV shows like Made In Chelsea, Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins and Celebrity Big Bother and now also presents a live Sunday show on Hits Radio. He says he thrives on the adrenaline of live broadcasting and is looking forward to meeting the award winners and a host of celebrities on the red carpet.

“I couldn’t be more excited about it,” he says enthusiastically, “I can’t wait. It’s the buzz of being on that red carpet. You’ve done your research on the winners and have heard their remarkable stories. You can hear the chatter in your ear piece and you hope it all works like clockwork.”

He adds with a chuckle: “A lot of the time it doesn’t always go right but that is why I love it. It is such a euphoric feeling. That is why I enjoy live radio as well. I enjoy the opportunity to connect with people, I love people, and there are amazing people on Pride Of Britain. I’m going to be like a kid in a candy shop.”

The 30-year-old laughs: “I never see myself as a celebrity and I get starstruck all the time... with everyone. I met Ross Kemp at the Baftas and he mistook me for a waiter. I was by a big bucket of beers and he said to me ‘I’ll have a Budweiser’ and I said ‘Here you go mate, enjoy’. I passed him like three beers over the course of the evening, but I kind of didn’t care. I just kept thinking ‘It’s Ross Kemp’.”

“I have to pinch myself sometimes that I am in the same room as these people, but Pride Of Britain is something special. It’s what we all need right now.”
